First Aesthetic Consultation Brisbane: What Should You Expect?
What to Expect at Your First Aesthetic Consultation in Brisbane

If you've never had an aesthetic consultation in Brisbane before, you might be wondering what actually happens when you walk through the door.
Do you need to know exactly what treatment you want?
Do you need to have a list of everything you'd like changed?
Do you need to know the difference between every treatment you've seen on Instagram?
No, no and definitely no.
Your first consultation should be a conversation, not a pop quiz.
You don't need to arrive with all the answers. That's rather the point of having a consultation in the first place.
So, where do we start?
For me, the first step is simple:
I listen.
I want to know what has brought you in, what you're concerned about and what you'd like to achieve.
You might know exactly what you'd like to discuss.
Or you might simply know that something has changed and you're not quite sure what your options are.
Both are completely fine.
You don't need to arrive with a treatment plan already written.
That's what the consultation is for.
What happens during the assessment?
Once we've talked about your concerns and goals, I'll assess your individual circumstances.
Depending on what we're discussing, this may include looking at your facial anatomy, skin, medical history and other factors that may be relevant to your care.
This is important because what may be appropriate for one patient isn't necessarily appropriate for another.
Two people can walk through the door with the same concern and leave with completely different recommendations.
And that's actually a good thing.
Your assessment should be about you, rather than simply matching you to a particular treatment.
What about treatment planning?
Once we've discussed your concerns and completed the appropriate assessment, we can talk through your options.
This is where I explain what may be suitable, what the process involves, relevant considerations and what you can realistically expect.
I also want you to have the opportunity to ask questions.
And yes, you can ask the same question twice.
You don't get bonus points for understanding everything the first time.
A good aesthetic consultation should give you the opportunity to understand what you're considering before making a decision.
Does every consultation end with treatment?
Not necessarily.
Sometimes treatment may be appropriate.
Sometimes a more conservative approach may make more sense.
And sometimes the best decision is to wait, gather more information or focus on other aspects of your skin health first.
I'm not interested in treating something simply because we can.
The goal is to determine what may be appropriate for you.
Because sometimes the most useful thing I can say is:
"Let's not rush this."
What about safety?
Safety is part of every consultation.
Before recommending treatment, it's important to consider your medical history, individual circumstances, potential risks and whether the treatment is appropriate for you.
A proper consultation gives us the opportunity to identify anything that may need further consideration before proceeding.
This is also why I don't believe a consultation should feel rushed.
Taking the time to properly assess and discuss your concerns matters.
For me, good patient-centred care means making sure you have the information you need to make an informed decision about your care.
What happens after the consultation?
Depending on your individual circumstances, we may discuss a treatment plan, follow-up or simply give you some time to consider your options.
You don't have to make a decision just because you've had a consultation.
Sometimes you need time to think.
Sometimes you want to do a little more research.
And sometimes you realise that you're perfectly happy leaving things as they are.
All of those are valid.
A consultation isn't a commitment to treatment.
It's an opportunity to have a conversation, ask questions and understand your options.
My approach to your first consultation
For me, a good consultation should leave you feeling informed rather than pressured.
You should understand what we've discussed, know what your options are and have the opportunity to make a decision that feels right for you.
Because aesthetic medicine in Brisbane isn't about walking into a clinic and being told what you should have done.
It's about having a proper conversation about what matters to you and what may be appropriate for your individual circumstances.
And if you leave with more knowledge than you arrived with, I'll consider that a pretty good appointment.
Do I need to prepare for my first consultation?
There's no need to create a 47-page document about everything you've ever noticed about your skin.
But it can be helpful to think about:
What has brought you in?
What are you hoping to achieve?
What concerns you most?
What questions would you like to ask?
Are there any relevant medical or treatment details I should know about?
Most importantly, come with your questions.
You don't need to know the terminology.
You don't need to know which treatment you want.
And you definitely don't need to pretend you've understood something if you haven't.
Ask.
That's what we're here for.
Ready to have a conversation?
If you're considering aesthetic treatment but aren't sure where to start, your first step can simply be a consultation.
You don't need to know exactly what you want.
Come with your questions. I'll bring the clinical knowledge.
